Seven Nation Army

Fun Fact of the Day: Jack White has said in interviews that "Seven Nation Army" is what he used to call the Salvation Army when he was little. And fantastic segue, I bought this military-style jacket while thrifting this summer! (It took me ten minutes to write that out the way it sounded in my head and the pun still didn't work. Phooey.) I hate buying clothes that I can't wear for months because it feels like I'm adopting a puppy only to take him home and not play with him until September. Too dramatic? Maybe.

Can't believe it's already, what, the last week of September? This month has been a whirlwind of doing stuff, maxing out my credit card to pay for textbooks (sad forever), and generally doubting that I'll ever, ever graduate from school. The usual. And then I had a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks and really soaked in the fact that this will be my life for the next nine months or so. Except around Christmas, I get to drink Peppermint Lattes instead.

And so, I'm developing my own school uniform - mainly skirts, leggings/pantyhose, and over-sized tops. Is it weird that I really don't like how pants look on me anymore? This striped sweater that I bought at H&M a few years ago has been my go-to, because it goes with everything. I'm also leaning away from a lot of colour, which is new. I used to never wear any black, or own any for that matter. Look guys, I'm getting all mature!

Also, yes, that is Michelle's shadow of her taking a picture of me being introspective while she takes my picture next to a school portable wall. Just so we're clear.

Also, I love these shoes. They are so comfy and make my legs look long and stuff. Old Navy is a great alternative to Forever 21 for cheap, trendy shoes. And that's my final thought.

Happy Tuesday!

Laid Back and Layering

Let's face it, I'm not a fashionista in anyway. I build my outfits based on the weather, comfort and practicality. It doesn't mean I don't love snazzing up my outfits, but realistically some of the outfits I post here will reflect on my boring day to day routine.

This is the first outfit I decided to break out on our first day of fall-like weather! Even though was wonderfully chilly outside, I still wanted to dress comfortably for class. I have such a "back and forth" relationship with school, when it comes to my wardrobe. I always want to look my best and bring out my best fall combinations. Then early mornings and uncomfortable chairs hit me and I'm back in leggings and a sweatshirt.

That's why I try to fit in the best of both worlds. I really love the hoodie + denim vest combo, a follower even asked if it was a jacket. This type of layering I love because it's such a simple look, theres still eye catching pieces like the vest and boots.

The tshirt is probably my favorite part of this outfit. It is the perfect oversized pocket tee (in my standards). The length is perfect because it doesn't make it look like any ol' mens shirt. The thicker cotton also makes the quality look better and is much more durable than my other tshirts.

As you can see I've finally broken out my doc martens. I believe they are my favorite fall/winter piece. This shiny pewter is eye grabbing, while still being neutral and easy to pair. They also look so much better with wear and tear.

The necklace combo is also one of my favorites (I still need to bring some nautical themes to this blog). The texture of the pendant and chain really go well with the grungy fall fashion I tend to go with.

*I also cut my hair the day before. I went to town with my razor comb to add more volume to the top. I seriously cannot wait for my hair to grow out super long like Amanda's

Summer Outfits of Michelle's Instagram

If you guys follow me on Instagram (mtrinh91), I love to post my daily outfits. So here's a compilation of my summer outfits, ranging from grocery shopping to actually going out. If you guys are wondering, I always take my outfit photos at the big mirror right before I enter my condo garage.

As you can see my favorite go-to outfit this summer are my high waisted denim shorts with a basic t-shirt or tank top. In the summer I can only bear so much heat so I don't love layering if I don't need too :)

Don't forget to follow me on Instagram: mtrinh91 for pictures of my OOTD, food and my beagle :)

Love,
Michelle
